Florida Distracted Driving Statistics
In a 2020 survey, the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles found that distracted driving was the main cause for over 48,000 motor vehicle accidents in Florida that year. Out of those accidents, 308 people were killed, and another 2,756 people were injured.
Texting and driving is by far one of the more dangerous distractions to drivers on the road today. Reading and sending text messages requires the driver's full visual, manual and cognitive attention, which is something that should be directed on the road ahead. Currently there are no distracted driving bans on the drivers of Florida, but 39 other states have adopted bans against texting and driving.
